Will Thor and Chris Hemsworth get their redemption?
After the reception to Thor: Love & Thunder, Chris Hemsworth believes a change in tone is right. The Australian actor has been portraying the character for over a decade, and now wants a new direction for the God of Thunder, possibly one that can fix the mistakes made by the last film. After the success of Thor: Ragnarok, director Taika Waititi pushed the humor even further and fell flat on his face, as the movie received a lot of criticism for its complete lack of seriousness, seeing the amount of personal trauma Thor went through in Infinity War and Endgame.
Chris Hemsworth on Thor’s Future
Many believe Thor: Love & Thunder is one of the weakest films of Phase 4 of the MCU, a phase that has already been getting a lot of hate due to its innovative styles of storytelling. In a recent interview, Chris Hemsworth stated that Thor’s next MCU return must be very different, and that “it would have to be a drastically different version in tone.” This confirms that all the actors have understood that the overt comedy that Waititi used has distracted what could have been a strong story.
Handling Thor
Thor had been tricky to handle. The first two films showed him darker and more brooding, and fans grew tired of that. The following showed him in a lighter and more relatable version. While Ragnarok worked, Waititi didn’t take the last two Avengers films into consideration. A darker and more grounded story could’ve been told, especially with Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher being present. Now that Thor is in charge of Gorr’s daughter Love, he needs to be a godly role model and take care of her, and end his MCU role in a grand way that impresses the majority of the fans.
Meanwhile, Chris Hemsworth is also thinking of hanging up his hammer on Thor, and is possibly looking to make his final entry.
