Black Adam: New TV Spot Gives First Looks at Dr. Fate and Hawkman

“There’s a glorious world out there, waiting for you”

The DCEU’s new heroes trailer gave us new footage from Black Adam, Aquaman 2, The Batman, and The Flash. We got a closer look into the movie that marks Dwayne Johnson’s grand entry into the superhero genre.

Let’s read on.

Change in storylines

Dr. Fate
Warner Bros.

Black Adam is usually seen as a DC villain, and is Shazam’s arch nemesis. Johnson was cast for the role in September 2014, even before a movie was announced. The movie was stuck in development hell for 3 years before getting into production in 2017. It wasn’t until mid 2021 that the movie wrapped up.

There will be notable changes in this version. Johnson’s character will be depicted as an anti-hero, instead of a villain. He had spoken about the characters in previous interviews and said it will explore the character’s time as a slave of Khandaq. Black Adam had undergone torture for numerous years until he was granted the power of a god. He is now hell-bent on taking revenge against those that wronged him. This sets him apart, as the traditional Black Adam doesn’t care if he killed innocents.

The Justice Society of America

Hawkman
Warner Bros.

The trailer showed Aldis Hodge’s Hawkman, Noah Centineo’s Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell’s Cyclone, and Pierce Brosnan’s Dr. Fate. Together they form the Justice Society of America, or the JSA. It is evident that the JSA is giving Adam an opportunity to join them, and fight for the greater good.

The suits deserve special mention as DC is going all out on this movie. We saw Hawkman, Dr. Fate, and Atom Smasher in action, and the costumes are fantastic. Johnson’s Black Adam suit is also very comic-accurate and comes with the hood as well. We can expect an official trailer to drop in the coming weeks.
