By winning Miss America, 2020, Camille Schrier proved that anyone, including doctors, could win beauty pageants.
The doctor turned into Miss America
The 93rd Miss America Pageant Competition, Miss America 2020, was held on Thursday, 19th December 2019. The competition was held at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut. Miss America of 2019 was Nia Franklin of New York. The winner of the title of Miss America 2020 is Camille Schrier, who is a Virginian Biochemist. She earned the crown after beating out 50 other women candidates hailing from 50 different states.
Camile Schrier also won a $50,000 scholarship and a one-year role model as Miss America. She is currently studying a doctorate in pharmacy at Virginia Commonwealth University and has two undergraduate science degrees. The 24-year-old impressed the judges by wearing a lab coat and giving a colorful chemistry demonstration of the catalytic demonstration of hydrogen peroxide. By performing a live science experiment on stage, she defied the stereotypes of the contest.
What motivated Camile Schrier to win the crown?
Camile Schrier performed in the talent portion the show’s first-ever science demonstration. She said in her speech that she hoped to break stereotypes about what it means to be a Miss America in 2020 by being a woman of science who is true to herself. She also added that she is not the beauty queen but the brand ambassador for the pageant and more than just someone with a crown on her head.
She also stated that she competed for Miss America after the swimsuit competition was discarded, and other changes have also been made in the organization. She figured that she would never want to get on the stage because she was a woman who did not want to get on the stage in a swimsuit. She also did not have any performing talent.
