A little late, but seems to be worth the wait
It has been a full 12 years since the release of Avatar, the movie that had made the biggest record of box office collections ever, a record that stayed from 2008 to 2019 till Avengers: Endgame stole that title.
But James Cameron is still a confident man and is hoping to reclaim that title with Avatar 2. Endgame has proven that people still come in droves for such fantasy movies, and Avatar 2 will be worth its weight.
A long delay
Cameron had no plans on making just one Avatar movie and had always wanted to take everyone on a journey to Pandora. It had just taken a very long time to plan and make, and in the end, we will be getting a total of four sequels that will be released until 2027.
So what do we know about Avatar 2?
We can expect Avatar 2 to hit theatres on December 17, 2021, if all goes well. The movie was supposed to release in December this year but got pushed back by an ENTIRE year. This must mean that production for the movie will be carrying on, despite the ongoing crisis that’s ravaging the world.
There had been a lot of date pushing for the movies, and it seems like Cameron was the only person who had remained chill throughout the whole process. Experiencing long gaps between the franchises he had made was nothing new, so he was quite at home with the situation. Avatar is not just shooting the movie after all. Most of the work goes into the digital process of making it.
As for the cast, we will see the titular characters, played by Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana will be returning. Apparently, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang will be returning as well, even though their characters had died in the first movie.
