‘Anne with an E’, the Canadian web series has gained much of a popularity and fan base online across the world. While the much-awaited fan following is waiting for Season 4, the Canadian Broadcast Corporation (CBC) has always denied for another season.
Netflix and CBC have been announcing the news since November that Season 3 was the last one for the series. In a joint statement in November, they wrote, “We’ve been thrilled to bring the quintessentially Canadian story of Anne With an E to viewers around the world. We’re thankful to producers Moira Walley-Beckett and Miranda de Pencier and to the talented cast and crew for their incredible work in sharing Anne’s story with a new generation”.
Hoping that the fans love the final season and that it brings a satisfying end to Anne’s journey; the makers had disappointed and disheartened their fan community. The fans were evidently taken aback by the decision. Hashtag #SaveAnneWithAnE came out trending over social media.
But another statement by the makers put a full stop to the hopes and wishes of the fans. CBC’s spokesperson said, “While we appreciate the outpouring of support from fans of the show, Netflix and CBC agreed that Season 3 of Anne with an E would be the final season”.
Words by Walley-Beckett
The writer-producer Moira Walley-Beckett also confirmed the news on her Instagram account. The lady said that she was sorry for the sad news by Netflix/CBC. She wrote that they have reached the end of the red Green Gables road after 3 wonderful seasons. Her heart is heavy but she’s very proud of the show. Walley-Beckett was very proud of her cast, crew and the directors for working passionately and brining her vision to life.
Netflix premiered the third season of the web series on January 3, 2020. The deal between CBC and Netflix has ended. This is perhaps the reason behind the cancellation of Season 4 of Anne with an E. The huge reaction by the fans might become a reason for the drama series to come back with another season.
