Seriously, it is one hell of a ride
Michael Bay’s 15th movie, Ambulance has hit theatres, and after almost two decades of slowly decaying Transformers films, this is something you can sink your teeth into. The movie, which stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Yaahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Eiza Gonzalez is the right shot of adrenaline you need. Read on to find out.
Ambulance Story and Direction
The movie follows two step-brothers Will (Yahya) and Danny (Jake) who are in an ambulance after a failed heist. They are accompanied by an EMT hostage Cam (Gonzalez), who also has to tend to a bleeding police officer. Will had to shoot him so that they can escape. As they speed through the streets of LA, the number of chasers grow. Police cars, vans, and helicopters follow, like a Grand Theft Auto sequence. The brothers know that if they stop, it’s game over.
Director Bay must be commended on the film. He was laughed at for the past decade or so for his love for the over-the-top scenes and explosions. However, we tend to forget that he started with movies like Bad Boys, Armageddon, and The Rock. These movies had grand scales of actions and explosions, but also had compelling stories. With Ambulance, Bay is getting back to his roots and makes sure the audiences don’t call his work overkill.
Final Verdict
The movie did have faults, no doubt. It gets a little funny to see our protagonists causing the death of a number of cops in accidents, while trying to save the bleeding policeman inside. But we will overlook that in the end with the amount of close calls, character interactions, and a massive number of twists and turns. All in all, this will be one of the most thrilling movies we have seen in recent times.
