Season – 1 of Altered Carbon was a big hit on Netflix. Netflix’s Altered Carbon season -2 is returning this year, 2020. A second season was not expected, due to its high cost of production.
In July 2018, it was confirmed that Season-2 would be returning, and the creator Laeta Kalogridis along with the showrunner Alison Schapker, will also be returning. Season-2 will have eight episodes, unlike season-1.
The release date of the show is yet to be released. Recently a video revealing the full cast of Altered Carbo season-2 was dropped on Netflix.
The plot of Altered Carbon Season-2 will be based on Richard Morgan’s second book Broken Angels, which takes place almost after thirty years of the first novel. In the second book, Kovac’s consciousness is transported into a new sleeve on a different planet.
Showrunner Laeta Kalogridis has declared that season 2 may slightly differ from the original story of Broken Angels, as the cost of production will be high according to the original story. Huge alien spacecraft and nuclear explosions are costly to produce.

Since Kovacs is expecting a new sleeve, Anthony Mackie is taking over the role of Joel Kinnaman. Quellcrist Falconer(Rene Elise Goldsberry) and Poe (Chris Corner) will be returning from season 1. If all goes well, the show is expected to run for five seasons in Netflix, as stated by Richard Morgan. So more books also will have to be there, since there is only one more book in the series, Woken Furies, following the book of Broken Angels.
As the story is all about a body-hopping, each series will have a new cast. Netflix is also confirming that Altered Carbon will be receiving an anime adaptation. It is sure that the show might be exploring new levels of mythology.
