Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s storyline is as crazy as it can get. It is like riding a roller-coaster that never stops or takes a break. Three years ago, Heard filed for divorce from Johnny Depp, and a lot has happened since then. They have a very open legal battle regarding Amber’s allegations about his abusive nature. But Depp denied those. It has been years since they are fighting tooth and nail, but they have quite a long history too.
In February 2015, Depp married Amber when he was 51, and she was just 28. In May 2016, Amber filed for divorce from the star actor of the Pirates of the Caribbean. She revealed that they had some differences and they couldn’t solve them. Just after a week, she filed a report stating that Depp was verbally and physically abusing her. This took place just after 15 months of marriage. She revealed that Depp threatened her, harassed her emotionally, abused her, and assaulted her whenever their opinions clashed on any matter. Photos of her face with bruises also spread around like wildfire. Whereas, according to Depp’s attorney, Amber was seeking premature financial resolve by bringing down his reputation.
In August 2016, TMZ released a video which brought new light into the case. In the video, Depp and Amber were in a room, when Depp threw a bottle of wine and a glass in the kitchen. Sometime later in August, both of them settled for an agreement of $7 million regarding the divorce. However, Heard donated the entire money to the American Civil Liberties Union, to help towards violence against women. In December 2016, Depp demanded $100,000 in court sanctions from Amber. His legal team revealed that Amber litigated the settled case which, just for a few minutes of fame. But Heard’s attorney called it a lame attempt.
In January 2017, Heard responded to Depp’s demands, saying she is equally interested in a quick resolve for the divorce. The judge decided that there was no need for her to pay the money and finalized the divorce. In October 2018, Depp said Amber’s allegations hurt him because they wrongly presented him. Heard wrote an article about her experience with physical abuse without mentioning Depp’s name on December 2018.
In January 2019, Depp’s attorney revealed that they submitted some evidence to prove that the allegations against him were not true. In March 2019, Depp filed a $50 million lawsuit against Heard for defaming him. He said those allegations had a negative impact on his career. He also said that Heard spent a lot of time with her ex-boyfriend during their marriage. In April 2019, Amber filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit and explained in detail about how he abused her.
Since then, they are going back and forth about the physical violence case. For now, it seems like it is a never-ending chain of lawsuits and legal battles. Let’s see what new turn the next month brings in the timeline of Amber Heard and Johnny Depp.
