3 Notable Celebrity Couple Anniversary Celebrations

How you spend your anniversary may not be that much different from celebrities of today. Surprisingly, for those for whom money is no object, royal family members anniversary celebrations are remarkably low key. Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, were married on April 29, 2011, at a lavish wedding, but they typically spend their wedding anniversary privately, though they’ve had years where they’ve attended royal engagements or events. Here are how some other notable celebrity couples have celebrated their anniversary.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West

The relationship of Kanye West, a rap genius, and Kim Kardashian, a reality TV star-turned-cultural icon, was not love at first sight. They first met in 2002 or 2003, but it was not until April 2012 that West and Kardashian went public with their relationship and were married on 24 May 2004. The pair are not only well-matched but also seem to be truly, madly, deeply in love.

To celebrate their second wedding anniversary, the Kardashian-West’s (affectionately known as Kimye) took a return visit to Florence Italy, where they were married. The couple went to the opera, choosing Giuseppe Verdi’s opera La Traviata in Rome.

After their trip to Italy, the couple them flew to London for the Vogue 100 Gala Dinner, continuing their anniversary celebration, with Kim uploading photographs on her social media accounts of the celebrations with captions referring to the happiest two years of her life with “the love of my life”.

In 2019, on their fifth wedding anniversary, Kim was considering many different anniversary gifts for husband and wanted to surprise him on the day with a vow renewal ceremony. Kim wanted this special ceremony to be a surprise at the house for Kanye. With formal vows at their wedding, this ceremony at their home was a chance for more personal vows and was followed by a dinner at home.

George Clooney and Amal Clooney

The notoriously private George and Amal Clooney were married on 27 September 2014. The couple first met in Lake Como in July 2013, and their first date was in October, followed by a vacation to Kenya at Christmas. In April 2014, George proposed and five months later the couple wed in a lavish ceremony in romantic Venice.

Whilst the couple are one of the most reserved couples in Hollywood, both dedicating their lives human rights advocacy work and more, their anniversary celebrations are as surprising as their wedding. On their first anniversary, the actor is reported to have surprised his wife by getting her favourite restaurant, a Los Angeles sushi spot named Asanebo, to open in London.

Their second-anniversary celebration was much more low-key, with George cooking spaghetti and meatballs at home, even though Amal is rarely impressed by his cooking skills.

On their fifth wedding anniversary, George and Amal celebrated with an intimate dinner with longtime friends Rande Gerber and Cindy Crawford at 4 Charles Prime Rib, a New York City restaurant.

David and Victoria Beckham

David and Victoria Beckham got married on July 4, 1999, at Luttrellstown Castle near Dublin in Ireland. The couple sat on thrones as they said their vows, and both opted for an off-white matching dress and suit. Costing millions, the costs were offset in part by selling their wedding photos to OK! Magazine. The couple remains married 20 years later and are the parents of four children, Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper.

On their 20th wedding anniversary in 2019, the Beckham’s went on a date in Paris. They dressed for the occasion, with Victoria wearing a white midi dress with a red Eva clutch from her own label, while David was dapper in a suit, tie and sunglasses. The day out included a private tour of Versailles, the former home of Marie Antoinette and considered one of the most beautiful estates in the world. This was followed by dinner at the best restaurant in the world, the three Michelin-starred Guy Savoy restaurant where they had a seven-course dinner that included oysters, caviar and raw salmon, prepared by the chef right in front of them. They also toasted their anniversary with a bottle of Dom Perignon’s ultra-premium P2 champagne.
