No, he’s not the MCU’s Batman
Disney has given Marvel’s Moon Knight some major story updates.
The show will be coming to Disney+ in March, and thanks to the dark and confusing trailer, most watchers didn’t understand much. But a recent article has shed some light on the story.
The article
An article published by Disney Latino was translated by The Cosmic Circus, and discusses about the main character. The trailer introduced us to Steven Grant, played by Oscar Isaac. We understood that Steven struggles with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), when a voice on the phone called him Marc at the end of the trailer.
That was because his real name is Marc Spector, a former mercenary who was left for dead in the Egyptian desert by his comrades. He had originally died, but was brough back to life by Khonshu, the Egyptian God of the Moon. Khonshu then tasks him as his Moon Knight of vengeance, and carry out his missions.
The article mentioned that the god asks him to be the bearer of his powers on Earth. Spector was a former military officer and former CIA agent, before he became a mercenary. He was already skilled in physical combat and weaponry, but the moon god’s powers amplified his prowess.
The article discusses his powers, saying Moon Knight has “Olympic-level athleticism.” He is capable of performing complex acrobatics and is a talented combat strategist.
What can be expected
Marvel has kept the project tight-lipped as always. But there are more characters within him aside from Steven and Marc. He has 5 personalities in total – Marc, the original identity; Steven, the billionaire alter-ego who funds his crime fighting; Jake Lockley, a New York cab driver; Mr. Knight, a newer identity, and finally Moon Knight himself. Moon Knight is his own person, and has superhuman strength, speed, and is dressed in white so that enemies see him coming.
