Ye has been trending for the past month for all the wrong reasons
Comedian Dave Chappelle hosted this week’s Saturday Night Live, and in his opening monologue, he addressed Kanye “Ye” West and Donald Trump. Ye had been trending for his anti-semitic comments, while the former president of the United States has been all over the upcoming midterm elections.
Dave Chappelle’s Monologue
Dave Chappelle started with a statement where he denounced antisemitism in all its forms. He added that he stands with all his friends in the Jewish community. And for the punchline, he said, “And that, Kanye, is how you buy yourself some time.” He went on to roast the rapper and fashion mogul, saying Kanye was untouchable until Adidas and all his other business partners dropped him following a series of anti-semitic comments he posted on social media. Chappelle joked that Adidas was ironically founded by Nazis, and even they were offended.
Dave Chappelle then spoke about basketball player Kyrie Irving, who got suspended from the Brooklyn Nets after he shared a link to a documentary called Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America. The notorious film contained anti-semitic sentiments. He then spoke about Herschel Walker and the belief that the Trump era is over. But that wasn’t the case since he said that Trump has a huge fanbase in Ohio. He joked that it was because the people in Ohio had never met anyone like him.
Chappelle’s Own Controversy
SNL invited some criticism to have Dave Chappelle host their weekly segments because of his jokes on the transgender community in his Netflix special, The Closer. However, all the canceling efforts had failed since then, after many from the community themselves took it in a good way and had a laugh.
