Vikander shares that she is excited to work with new director Misha Green on sequel

The Tomb Raider movie got its first reboot in 2018, and starred Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft. The movie was a success, and fans were eager for a sequel. The movie is still in pre-production and doesn’t have a release date. However, Ben Wheatley, the first director was replaced by Emmy-nominated director Misha Green. Green wrote and directed episodes for HBO Max’s Lovecraft Country. Vikander has now shared her thoughts and said she’s excited to work with the new director.

The movies were adapted from the popular video game franchise of the same name. Angelina Jolie played the titular character in the early 2000s in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life. The movies enjoyed modest success in the box office, and mainly stood out due to Jolie. However, the 2018 reboot by Warner Bros. managed to outshine both with a $274 million worldwide collection. It earned 52% from Rotten Tomatoes, as compared to the 20% and 24% the old movies did.

In an interview with Total Film, Vikander said she was excited when the studio expressed ideas for a sequel. She was sold even more after Green was mentioned. Vikander talked about the fun Zoom calls she had with another woman of her own age.

Green has worked on successful shows like  Sons of AnarchyHeroesSpartacus, and Underground. She is also the screenwriter for The Mother, a 2022 movie with Jennifer Lopez in the lead.

In terms of stardom, Vikander doesn’t enjoy what Jolie did. But that didn’t stop fans from saying that she was a better on screen Lara Croft than Jolie. Audiences still enjoy a good action-adventure flick and its the genre that earns big at the box office. Despite the numerous superhero films that comes out every year, a sequel to Tomb Raider will also perform well.
