The legendary outlaw/hero’s story has been rewritten yet again
The origin story of Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord has been completely reimagined in the latest issue of Guardians of the Galaxy. While this is not the first time that he was given a new backstory, this one certainly stands out.
What’s new
Guardians of the Galaxy #9 takes place after a major time lapse and it’s opening text, there was a small hint saying something unexpected will be revealed about Star-Lord’s origin. Quill was seen for the last time supposedly dying, and not much has been shared about him since. The new series is written by Al Erwing, the art is by Juann Cabal and colors are by Federico Blee.
The recap starts with Peter’s mom Meredith falling in love with “a man from the stars” like before, it crosses out certain parts, saying they are false memories. It also alleges that the Master of the Sun doesn’t really exist. Flip forward a few pages and we see Quill with an ultimatum – either die or to become Star-Lord and let go of his past life and start anew. It’s made to look that Quill himself was the cause of his reboot and has reinvented himself. This new backstory will definitely open doors for new plotlines and can have a major impact on the other guardians as well.
Quill is no longer someone who gave himself the name of Star-Lord but is an actual authority of the cosmos. This new development holds the possibility of the stories having more depth and even have more scope than the previous ones.
Guardians of the Galaxy #9 is currently out on stores and is available for purchase.
