Underrated anime characters who actually deserve more credit

These are some of the characters which this humble writer thinks should definitely be in the spotlight

It’s not common for the protagonists in a TV series or anime to get all the glory. After all, the story is centered around them. But there are some characters who help them in their journey and make the protagonists worth remembering. So let’s take a look into a few such characters.

1. Kabuto (Naruto)

Kabuto Yakushi is a character from Naruto and Naruto Shippuden whom I believe doesn’t get enough recognition. He was a man we all loved to hate but we often forget that he was the one who perfectly reanimated former legendary warriors for the Fourth Great Shinobi War. If he hadn’t found redemption at the end like many major Naruto villains, I’m sure this guy will still be bringing the world to its knees every now and again.

2. Sakura Haruno

Yes, another character from Naruto. Despite being the lead heroine in the story, Sakura is probably the most hated and unappreciated character. Sometimes I like to believe that it is a running gag in the fandom to call her useless. Sakura is someone who had said and did some dumb things but has learnt from all that and is one of the best medical ninja in the village. She’s also probably one of the most physically strong ninjas as well. Her fists are capable of both healing and destruction so I hope the fans stop the “useless” joke.

3. Alexander Volg Zangief (Hajime no Ippo)

Hajime no Ippo is seriously one of the best shounen series there is. It’s a true representation of boxing with the right amounts of drama and comedy and the characters are all impressive and lovable. Volg is one such character but I believe he sometimes gets lost in the glory of others. Coming from Russia to Japan due to his love for boxing, Volg is someone who has sacrificed a lot, including time with his sick mother who later passes away. After repeated losses, he even quits boxing for a while before a big comeback. He is the one who also indirectly helped Ippo in winning a title match when he blocked his Dempsey Roll. For the non-manga readers, they might be in for a surprise to see the position Volg is in right now.
