The English Game is the latest historical drama from Downtown Abbey creator Julian Fellowes Sporting. The main plot and storyline of the show revolves around how football was invented as a game and how it rose to become the world’s game by breaking through all the barriers of class division.
WILL THERE BE MORE OF THE ENGLISH GAME?
Right now, there has been no official announcement from Netflix whether The English Game has been given green light for another season. However, the show only dropped on Netflix recently on the 19th of March. So, it’s very early for the second season to be announced.
Netflix announces renewal and cancellation up to six months after the series had premiered, so there is still a lot of time for the future of The English Game to be made. From the outset, the show was made and written to be a six-part miniseries so, it is unlikely there will be more of the series to come.
There is another in the mind of the audience is whether the series is based on a true story? The English Game is a historical sports drama about the origin of modern football in England, so the story was more or less wrapped up by the end of the series.
However, fans should not lose hope as the first season did not come to a concrete end, leaving the door open for The English Game season two. The second series could explore the rise of football as a serious competitive sport and worldwide game.
It could also continue to explore and explain the journey of Arthur Kinnaird and Fergus Suter. A renewal will mainly depend on the show’s ratings, and the decision of the show’s producers, Julian Fellowes. However, the return of The English Game could be delayed as show producers Julian Fellowes are quite busy, working on The Glided Age, the prequel to Downtown Abbey.
