Netflix original Mindhunter is a crime thriller series based on true-crime book Mindhunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit by John E. Douglas and Mark Olshaker. It was released on Netflix on 13th October 2017 and the series’ second season was released on 16th August 2019. Now the fans have one question- will it return for season three?
When will season 3 come?
Director David Fincher has been working on his other projects so the series has been put on indefinite hold. The cast members have also stepped aside and they have been released from their contracts. A source told Entertainment Weekly that Fincher might come back to Mindhunter again in the future but for now, he has released the cast from their contracts as he is also working on other projects now. The Hollywood Reporter once reported that Fincher had plans for five seasons which are probably in the past as of now.
If Fincher had to return to Mindhunters then he would probably resume after work on his film Mank is done. The third season then, by this prediction will be released around 2022.
The main cast, which included Jonathan Groff as Holden Ford, Holt McCallany as Bill Tench, and Anna Torv as Wendy Carr, are all ready to work on other projects as they are not bound by their contracts. It would be difficult to work around other actors’ schedules as they might be busy with other projects.
Who are the cast and characters?
The three lead actors of Mindhunter – Jonathan Groff as Holden Ford, Holt McCallany as Bill Tench and Anna Torv as Wendy Carr – have been released from their contracts while Fincher works on other projects. Other actors and characters that may return are Stacey Roca as nancy Tench, Joe Tuttle as Greg Smith, Michael Cerveris, Cameron Britton as Ed Kemper, Sam Strike as Montie Rissell, and Happy Anderson as Jerry Brudos.
