Netflix has a huge surprise in store for its Game of Thrones fans! A new fantasy TV series “The Witcher” is set to release on the media service provider. The eight-episodes long fantasy series based on the novels series by Polish writer Andrzej Sapowski about a witcher or a monster hunter with supernatural powers, Geralt of Rivia, is set to cast our most favorite Superman actor Henry Cavill as the lead. This new series could be a really promising one.
Release Date
The fantasy series is set for a release on 20th December 2019 on Netflix!
According to a post shared by Cavill on his Instagram handle, the filming for the series was wrapped up in June. The caption read: “Season one of The Witcher has finally come to an end”, he further added, “The cast and crew worked tirelessly throughout, everyone pitched in and brought their A-game to set and I couldn’t be more proud of you all.”
The first poster of the series was released by Netflix in July through a twitter post which left the fans asking for more already! Later the lead actor, Henry Cavill, released the trailer for the series at San Diego Comic-con the same month.
Previously the release date was 17th of December apparently, but soon that tweet was deleted.
Cast
Other than our beloved superman Henry Cavill playing the leading role of Geralt of Rivia, he will be accompanied on the screen by Freya Allan who will play Ciri, the princess of Cintra, Jodhi May who will be playing the role of Queen Calanthe, Adam Levy who will be playing the role of Druid Mousesack, and Anya Chalotra will play the powerful sorceress Yennefer (also Geralt’s love interest).
Plot Details
The series is going to be based on Polish writer Andrzej Sapowski’s novel series about Geralt of Rivia. It is not yet disclosed which book has been chosen for adaption but according to rumors the first series will focus on the original short story collection The Last Wish.
