‘Ford v Ferrari’ is a movie that thrillingly tells the tale of Detroit’s Ford Motor Co. taking on Italy’s Ferrari for Le Mans car-racing glory. It’s a strange-but-true story from the 1960s and is based on the rivalry between Ford and Ferrari for the dominance at the Le Mans endurance race.
Christian Bale is playing Ken Miles, a hot-tempered British racer and struggling mechanic, while Matt Damon plays a U.S. car designer Carroll Shelby. The two are dispatched by Henry Ford II and Lee Iacocca with the mission of building the Ford GT40, a new racing car with the potential to finally defeat the perennially dominant Ferrari racing team at the 1966 Le Mans race in France. They are supposed to defeat Le Mans trophy from the hands of legendary autobuilder Enzo Ferrari (Remo Girone), who considers the annual 24-hour race his personal fiefdom.
Winning is as much about brainpower as it is about horsepower. And while designing a faster and lighter car is important as well as a right driver is required to accomplish the task. That right driver is Miles, a short-tempered man with unflappable skills on the racetrack. He’s under the watch of Shelby, a former Le Mans racer who knows what is required to get the job done and is ready to tolerate Miles attitude for the sake of winning the race.
