Will it finally become successful?
Netflix has their eye on some of the biggest anime to exist, and failing once won’t mean they have given up. Yes, we are talking about their live action version of Death Note, which became a massive failure. Despite burning their hands, the streaming giant wants to give the show another try, since it can be phenomenal if done right. For that, they have turned to Matt and Ross Duffer, aka, the Duffer brothers, aka, the creators of Stranger Things. The show has gone on to be one of the biggest successes ever, and continues to bring in the numbers. With their firm understanding of horror, perhaps they can do it well.
About Death Note
Death Note is a manga that came out in 2003 and ran till 2006. It was written by Tsugumi Ohna and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. The story is about Light Yagami, a high school student who comes across a mysterious black notebook, the titular Death Note. He finds out that it has the ability to kill whoever’s name is written in it. Light decides to dish out justice and started writing names of criminals. The severe death count of criminals around the world brought in L, a genius detective. Then begins a cat-and-mouse game between Light and L.
The Duffers’ Entry
The Duffer brothers will also be producing the project with their banner, Upside Down Pictures. They have already planned a Stranger Things spin-off series, and Stephen King and Peter Straub’s The Talisman.
The brothers stated that the purpose of the production company was to produce the kind of stories that inspired them – ones that take place in the beautiful crossroads where the ordinary meets the extraordinary.
We have no details on when Death Note will begin, but there is hope left for the series.
