The 36-year gap might just have been worth it

Top Gun: Maverick is a hit! And not just that, it has soared above the original, and can take your breath away. Directed by Joseph Kosinski (TRON: Legacy, Oblivion), the new movie rights the wrongs of Tom Cruise’s character Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. Let’s read below in detail.

Top Gun: Maverick Review

The first movie centered around the selfish main character played by Cruise. His character embodied arrogance, selfishness, and many toxic personalities. But it is told by an older man, who is reflecting on how bad he was in his 20s. Maverick’s choices made all those years ago continues to have an impact on him, and he reflects on them every day. And now, almost 40 years later, we see a new man. The man who put himself first is now more interested in what’s best for the group.

In Top Gun: Maverick, Mverick is trying to prove that he can take a plane to 10Gs with a living person in the cockpit, opposing a group that wants unmanned drones to occupy the skies. His team is at risk of losing their jobs if this plan takes effect. So Maverick puts his selfish desires to good use, not to boost his own ego, but to make sure the others continue to be fighter pilots. But he is not entirely changed. Maverick still is a daredevil, and tries pushing boundaries.

Paying Homage

Top Gun: Maverick pays homage to the original, but not in a way that feels rushed or forced. We see a character who was infamous for being an overall arrogant s.o.b becoming a heartful person. Cruise is also seen reliving the glory days as his character and does justice to him throughout. Believe the hype, believe the insane praises for the movie, and watch the original if you already haven’t. Because Top Gun: Maverick is a movie truly worth watching.
