A space story with love, mortality, and interstellar travel as its themes
Amazon Prime has released the trailer for their new sci-fi series, Night Sky. The series seems to be trying to tug the heartstrings of audiences the way only sci-fi can. But at the same time, there is a realistic and down-to-earth approach taken by the series. Let’s read on in detail.
Night Sky Story and Trailer
From the trailer, we see it’s about an older couple named Franklin (J.K. Simmons) and Irene York (Sissy Spacek). Years ago, the couple finds out that there is a passage connecting their home to another world, and they can reach there through a portal. But growing older has made it difficult for them to keep their secret to themselves, with their granddaughter and neighbor getting concerned about their nightly activity.
As Irene and Frank starts to wonder if they should share their secret, something else happens. A mysterious man, who could very well be an alien, named Jude has come to their home through the portal. But the arrival of Jude causes their lives to be entangled with that of an Argentinian mother and daughter named Stella and Toni. However, they were only briefly shown in the trailer, meaning the show can have a lot of twists.
The show’s writer Holden Miller says the story is emotionally serious, but has a warmth and humor with an escapist quality. It will be exploring the themes of mortality, love, and family dynamics. Aside from Amazon Studios, the series will be produced by Legendary Television.
Release Date
Night Sky is coming in sooner than we thought. It will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video from May 20.
