The Nickelodeon star now has control over her medical, financial and personal decisions
Amanda Bynes was once a promising actress, after her debut in Nickelodeon before moving onto Hollywood projects. However, the 35-year-old star went through a dark phase that led to her being placed under a conservatorship. But after almost 9 years, it has been lifted. Read the full story.
Amanda Bynes’ Request to End
Bynes got placed under the conservatorship came after numerous incidents. She had displayed erratic behavior, such as expressing paranoia over being stalked. During the 2011-2012 period, she had multiple run-ins with the cops. Her license got suspended after she got caught driving under the influence. She was charged for a misdemeanor hit-and-run at the time as well. After that, she got arrested for driving on a suspended license.
The final straw came after she set fire to her parents’ driveway. She got admitted to a psychiatric hospital after that. Her mother Lynn was placed in charge of the conservatorship in 2013. Lynn herself explained in court that Amanda is ready to live on her own.
Request to end
Bynes requested the court to end the conservatorship in 2022. Both her parents have been very supportive throughout the process, and Bynes herself turned herself around. Her lawyer David A. Esquibias told Entertainment Tonight that she is ready to live as an independent person and student, and they are all looking forward to see her next step.
Bynes definitely had a much easier conservatorship than Britney Spears, who got free four months ago after 13 years. Amanda has not appeared in any movies after 2010’s Easy A, and it is doubtful that she will ever return.
