Bring in the darkness
Daredevil, along with the other Marvel series developed by Netflix has now been obtained by Disney+. While not a lot of MCU fans checked out the Netflix shows before, they are certainly looking into it after Spider-Man: No Way Home. Cox appeared as Peter’s lawyer, and in the short time, established his skills. With that came his, and possibly the other Netflix stars’ second, more official outing. But due to the Disney+ shift, can the shows continue to be dark and gritty? Cox shares his opinions.
Need for mature content
While movies like the first Iron Man or The Incredible Hulk had dark themes, Marvel kept the rest PG-13. Marvel movies followed the strict guidelines of being enjoyed by the whole family. The Netflix series began in 2015 with Daredevil. Similar to the comics, the series nailed in setting a dark and gritty tone. The story was intended for mature audiences, and so was the violence.
Cox hopes that Disney continues to do that. He said that he is a fan of all their works, and won’t underestimate them. A new age really did begin after Avengers: Endgame, and more bold stories are being told. Charlie says that even if they want a PG-13 version, he will let them find a way that is in line with the Netflix shows. Even if there is a little less blood, it is important that they maintain that tone.
Characters that won’t work with a PG rating
It is clear that characters like Daredevil, Punisher, and Moon Knight won’t work in a PG rated show or movie. Cox knows well that the character lives in a darker space.
But there is good news. With Daredevil, Jessica Jones and the others’ arrival, Disney+ made an announcement that they are changing their parental settings. Users are now instructed to select content ratings restrictions for each profile and add a PIN lock.
