Timothée Chalamet Responds to Armie Hammer Sexual Assault Claims

Chalamet weighed in on the issue after Hammer’s accusations earlier this year

Timothée Chalamet gave a brief statement on the sexual assault allegations against his Call Me By Your Name co-star Armie Hammer.

In his interview with Time magazine, the  Dune actor was asked on the issue, and he gave a vague response. Chalamet, 25, said, “I totally get why you’re asking that,” and then added that he didn’t want to give a partial response.

Hammer and Chalamet starred together in the 2017 movie, Call Me by Your Name, which became Chalamet’s breakout role. After the movie’s success, a sequel was announced, but director Luca Guadagnino never wrote the script. After Hammer’s allegations, it seems to have gone away for good.

Hammer was accused of rape by a woman named Effie, who is believed to run an infamous, and anonymous Instagram account. The account posted accusations against Hammer from various women, who claimed he had cannibalistic fantasies and was emotionally abusive. Effie was later represented by attorney Gloria Allred, and accused the actor of rape and physical abuse in their on-and-off four-year relationship from 2016 to 2020.

Hammer’s lawyer stated that the encounter between Hammer and Effie was “completely consensual, discussed and agreed upon in advance, and mutually participatory.”

However, many other women also echoed her claims and spoke about his abusive and violent fantasies and behaviour. Hammer was dropped by his talent agency William Morris Endeavor and later, lost his agent as well.

He was then replaced in two of his projects, Shotgun Wedding and The Offer. Josh Duhamel will star in the former, opposite Jennifer Lopez, and Miles Teller will star in the latter.

From the last reports, the case was investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department.
