The original creators have published more stories on the franchise after Light’s end
A new collection of Death Note short stories set in the same universe and by the same creators will go on sale next year. Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata have returned to give more of their legendary franchise. The stories will take place after Light Yagami changed the world as Kira.
The stories
There are numerous short stories that have released in Japan last year. The creators will compile them, and add some other stories that were never published. The one-shot sequel to the original story will also be included. Fans outside Japan can get their copies now. The news was announced by Viz Media at the New York Comic Con. The current release window is slated to be Summer 2022.
Viz Media describes the work, known officially as Death Note: SHort Stories as such: Kira’s story is over, by the Death Note’s is not. As mentioned earlier, it will include the the one-shot that became the official sequel. In it, we see the Death Note land in a new main character’s hand and be used in a whole new way. It served as a worthy sequel to the original, and many fans hoped for it to get an anime adaptation as well. We never know when it might get one.
Creators’ statements
Takeshi Obata, the illustrator said that it had been a long time since the series ended, but now it returns as a series of short stories. He added that you never know what will happen in this world. Writer Tsugumi Ohba spoke about the pandemic, and sincerely hopes that things will return to normal. He also apologized in advance for any jokes in his manga, as that is his style.
