Watch Joker choke on his last laugh and his blood
Warner Bros. has released a new red-band trailer for their upcoming animated movie Injustice. The director will be Matt Peters, who did Justice League Dark, and the screenplay will be written by Ernie Altbacker (Batman: Hush). The story will be an adaptation of the video game Injustice: Gods Among Us, and the subsequent graphic novel, Injustice: Gods Among Us: Year One.
Check out the trailer below:
The story
The Injustice universe is a long one, and follows a very dark storyline. It takes place in an alternate Earth where Superman is driven mad after the horrifying death of Lois Lane and their unborn child. His grief led him to create a totalitarian regime which has one policy: to stop all crime in whatever ways possible. The Regime’s iron grip on society turns tighter as the days progress, causing many to turn against Superman.
Among this is Batman, who leads the other heroes in creating The Insurgency. Their goal is to liberate Earth from Superman’s rule. The game storyline follows the battles between the two factions, only briefly uniting to stop Brainiac. We are not sure at this point if there will be more movies on the Injustice storyline, but if there is, we are in for a treat. Injustice is one of DC’s biggest stories and the lore is immense.
The trailer
The red-band trailer gives us a brief look into the brutality in store. It begins with Superman bursting into Joker’s cell and thrusting his hand through his heart, for killing Lois and his child.
It was right to make the movie R-Rated, given the story. That said, the final product will determine if the violence and gore enhanced the storytelling. Hopefully, Peters and his team know what they’re doing and will do a great job.
