The Controversial “Dirty Money” is Returning with Season 2 in March 2020

Dirty Money was released on Netflix on January 26th, 2018. The series was based on real-life incidents of corruption, fraud, and corporate greed, usually involving big businesses. Netflix produced six episodes of the docuseries. It is claimed to be one of the best documentaries of the year.

The first season had some pretty monumental episodes featuring big corporations scandals. Let’s take a look at all of them.

Hard NOX

The first episode featured the Volkswagen Emissions Scandal. Due to the episode, a $10 billion dollar settlement was agreed to in the United States. Cars in the UK which were supposed to be fixed haven’t actually been fixed. There is another case with Nissan in which the emissions tests have been falsified.

The episode primarily targeted Scott Tucker, loan shark, convicted racketeer, and racer. After the episode was aired his brother Joel Tucker has been convicted. Payday loans still haven’t got out of the market and they are still very popular.

Drug Short

This is one of the most outstanding episodes of Dirty Money. It featured the greed and then eventual downfall of Valeant. Martin Shkreli was convicted and sent to prison for fraud for his drug firm, Retophin. Valeant has changed its name and lost $4 billion dollars but they are still increasing the cost of their drugs.

Cartel Bank

The episode revealed the money laundering of HSBC. They have invested in machine learning since then to get past the laundering.

The Maple Syrup Heist

Since the release of the episode, plans have been made to combat poor harvest.

The Confidence Man

This is considered the most controversial episode of the series as it is centered around the President of the United States, Donald Trump. It highlights the recent controversies surrounding Trump and his businesses. The President is also undergoing several investigations but his business is still booming.

When is season 2 coming?

Alex Gibney, executive director of the series tweeted in December 2019 the release date of the second season.
