The 75th BAFTA Awards: Dune & The Power of the Dog dominates the Awards Night Again!

The 75th BAFTA Winners

The 2022 EE British Academy Film Awards or BAFTAs held on Mon, 14 Mar 12:30 am IST at the Royal Albert Hall saw The Power of the Dog dominating the winners list. Dune also bagged multiple wins at the event. Find the list list of winners in major categories below.

The Power of the Dog for The Best Film

The Power of the Dog, directed by Jane Campion took home the award for The Best Film. This  psychological drama featured a wealthy ranch owner, who is cruel towards his brother and his new wife. He continues to do so until he finds love. The award for The Best Director was given to Campion.

The Denis Villeneuve’s directed “Dune” took home multiple wins. It received 11 nominations. And won five of them including the award for Best Production Design, Best Sound, Best Special Visual Effects, Best Original Score and for Best Cinematography.

The award for the Best Animated Film went to Encanto, a story revolving around the magical family, where everyone has gifts except Mirabel.

Best Actors and Actresses

The Best Actor in a Leading Role went to Will Smith in King Richard as Richard Williams. Unfortunately, Smith wasn’t present to accept the award. Therefore, Ronaldo Marcus Green, the director of King Richard accepted the honor on his behalf.

Joanna Scanlan won the award for The Best Actress in a Leading Role for her role in After Love as Mary Hussain. The actress was overwhelmed. She thanked the BAFTA, the Aleem Khan, the director and writer of the film. Later she also went on to thank her own family.

Troy Kotsur won the award for best actor in a supporting role for playing Frank Rossi in the film CODA. And Ariana DeBose won the Best Actress in a Leading Role for West Side Story as Anita.
