Sonic the Hedgehog 2’s Super Bowl Clip Shows More Knuckles, and Brings a Robotnik Classic to Life

It even included an MCU joke

A new clip from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has arrived, and further increased excitement for the movie.

It showed Knuckles in detail, and gave a sneak peek into the threat he becomes. We also got to see some things that created iconic gaming moments in the past. Let’s read in detail.

The trailer

Eggman's robot
Paramount

In the trailer, we see Sonic (Ben Schwartz) in a fight against his new enemy Knuckles (Idris Elba). Knuckles is hell-bent on beating Sonic, and claims that it is his destiny to destroy him. Sonic is constantly cracking jokes, and even calls Knuckles ‘The Winter Soldier.’ The duo battle across the cities and snowy mountains.

We also see the massive Death Egg Robot, one of Robotnik’s (Jim Carrey) greatest inventions. The robot had appeared in multiple Sonic games in the past. The first appearance was in the 1992 Sega Genesis game, also known as Sonic The Hedgehog 2. Perhaps it was introduced in the movie as a nod to the original. In the trailer, the Death Egg Robot looms large in the background as Sonic and Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessy) dodge them in the latter’s red biplane.

Story details

Knuckles
Paramount

Sonic 2 is inspired by the 1994 games Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles. Knuckles was initially manipulated by Robotnik into believing that Sonic is his enemy. The movie will mainly follow Sonic and Tails’ quest in recovering the Master Emerald before Robotnik gets it.

The movie also stars James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, Elfina Luk, Tom Butler, and Lee Majdoub. Shemar Moore was newly casted in an unknown role.

The first movie was a surprise hit, and the sequel seems to be even bigger. Paramount is leaving no stone unturned to deliver a movie that fans of the games and casual watchers can enjoy.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 comes to theaters on April 8.
