Netflix re-evaluating the “Baahubali” prequel

The streaming giant Netflix is now re-evaluating the much-awaited prequel of blockbuster “Baahubali” movies named “Baahubali : Before The Beginning”. The prequel is of two-season behind which Netflix spend about Rs.150 crore. However, later it is decided to lay aside the series.

Prequel series “Baahubali: Before The Beginning”

In 2018, the prequel series “Baahubali: Before The Beginning” was announced to be made in the OTT platform Netflix with the Arka Mediaworks producing the film. Moreover, according to Variety, many acclaimed personalities in film industry will take up the director seat. “Prasthanam” credited director Deva Katta and Praveen Sattaru of “Guntur Talkies” would direct for the prequel series.

The prequel series “Baahubali: Before The Beginning” is totally based on the Anand Neelakantan’s bestselling novel called “The Rise of Sivagami”. The story is about the valiant Queen Sivagami. The storyline based on how the rebellious girl became a wise queen. The plots take people on a ride to both heart-warming and heart-wrenching instances simultaneous. It swayed readers away in a bay full of action and emotions.

Netflix’s displeasure with finished work

Looking at the overwhelming popularity, Netflix ordered two season. A season of the two costs Netflix about $20 million on estimation. The season’s was set in in Hyderabad with Deva Katta directing the series. Nowadays, the prequel is in post-production phase. Although Netflix spends a whopping Rs 150 crore for the prequel series “Baahubali: Before The Beginning”, still was highly displeased with the finished product and lay aside the shooting.

As per Variety, Netflix is considering on bringing the other directors like Padma Shri Awardee S.S Rajamouli who did a fantastic work in the original “Baahubali” movies. It is also planning casts on mid-way to improve the quality of the movie.

An Insider updated the fact that for sometime now Netflix is now struggling hard with the prequel series. ‘Baahubali: Before the Beginning’ is one of the most anticipated series but due to prevailing pandemic conditions as well as the high on scale production budget making the productions more complex. In addition to this, it is creating obstacles for the progress of productions.

Original Series of “Baahubali”

The previous S.S Rajamouli directed “Baahubali” megahit sequels were made on a joint budget of $70 million and globally earned about $370 million. The excellent cast of Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Ramya Krishnan, Anushka Shetty and Tamannaah Bhatia skillfully portrayed their characters.

Under Arka and Graphic India productions, the two animated seasons of series “Baahubali: The Lost Legends” released in 2017 and 2018. They also got huge popularity on Amazon Prime Video.
