According to Entertainment Weekly, McKenna Grace found inspiration for this song during a “rough time” in her personal life, during the coronavirus pandemic. She said that she wanted to write a song about how a person’s memory can remain with you even though they’re no longer in your life. She added that the message can be taken as a breakup song, but it fits also for a friend or family, or relationships in general, that had ended.
From the statement, you can see how the song proved to be fitting for a movie like Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which is about a young girl discovering her late grandfather’s ghost-busting kit, and setting out on her own adventure with her brother and other friends. It was more of a story on legacies than exterminating ghosts.
