Many of you might have heard this name for the first time. While some of you may have heard it before as Marvel revealed his character in the movie beforehand.

Taskmaster’s Appearance in Comics

Taskmaster first appeared in Marvel Comics issue Avengers #195. Writer, David Michelinie and artist, George Pérez created him in May 1980.

In the storyline, the Avengers attack an asylum but later, find that the asylum was instead a training center for villains. They fight all the villains and beat them up. At last, they meet with their mentor, Taskmaster.

Taskmaster single-handedly defeats all the Avengers. When all the Avengers were unable to defeat him, Jocasta comes in. Since he didn’t know her before, Jocasta easily defeats Taskmaster.

His Origin Story

Taskmaster wasn’t like this before. His real name is Tony Masters. He was born with a special ability: Photographic Reflexes. Because of this, he can copy anything within seconds of seeing it. That’s why he was able to defeat the Avengers together and not Jocasta alone.

Later, he starts working for the S.H.I.E.L.D. It was the time period when super-soldier serum was created. He was then, sent to a Nazi lab to kill all the volunteers, capture all the scientists and destroy all their super-soldier serum.

A blast happens which kills all present there, except Tony and a Nazi scientist. The scientist gives Tony the last injection of supersoldier serum. But instead of destroying it, he injects it into himself so that he can serve S.H.I.E.L.D. better than before. But it reacts with his body in a different way.

Tony Masters to Taskmaster

The serum has a side effect on him. Tony starts having a short memory loss. The more he learns new moves, he forgets his past. His wife, Mercedes Masters also works with him in the S.H.I.E.L.D. She becomes tense because of his situation.

She sends him to villains meetings to gather info for the S.H.I.E.L.D. Later on, he forgets everything about S.H.I.E.L.D. and even his wife. All he remembers was meeting the villains. So, he starts training them in that asylum.

He is also present in other editions of Marvel Comics. Later, he starts a life as a mercenary and starts fighting for money. He fights many superheroes in his life again and defeats them.
