Matthew Perry On His Addiction Days

In a sincere interview with Diane Sawyer that would be made public on October 28, Matthew Perry stated that his drinking days began when Friends aired. When his career was going well, he was sitting in a dark room either alone or with drug dealers. He was appreciative of Jennifer Anniston, his Friends co-star and a great friend off-screen, for reaching out to him and paying attention to him during his drinking days. He expressed his sincere gratitude to her.

He admitted to having an addiction to Xanax, methadone, and 55 Vicodin every day. He went on to say that people like him are killed by secrets. He claimed that if the police had told him to stop doing drugs or drinking at the time and threatened him with jail if he didn’t, he would have escaped because his addiction was too strong to let go of at the time, and it only gets worse as people get older.

He even revealed that he weighed around 128 pounds when his addiction initially began, and that as a result of his usage of opioids, his colon burst, necessitating five months in the hospital and two weeks in a coma.

Additionally, he stated that he had to wear a colostomy bag for nine months after being informed by the doctors that he had a two-percent chance of remaining alive and he was placed on an ECMO machine, which no one had survived. He made the decision to become sober and seek therapy after a year.
