Community Involvement: Overview of MOVTA meeting and Mid-Ohio Valley Sports Hall of Fame nomination process

The Mid Ohio Valley Tennis Association (MOVTA) will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, March 13, at 6:00 PM at Panera. Anyone interested in area tennis are welcomed to attend. Join us on Facebook HERE. The NOMINATION FORM for the Class of 2025 of the Mid-Ohio Valley Sports Hall of Fame is now available. You can print a form to mail or e-mail or submit a form online from the website.

Sports Hall of Fame News: Details on the Class of 2024 induction banquet and Class of 2025 nomination form availability

Tickets for the Mid-Ohio Valley Sports Hall of Fame Reverse Raffle Party to be held Sunday, May 18, 2025 at 2 p.m. at the Vienna Community Center are now on sale. Tickets may be purchased by contacting any committee member or the Secretary/Treasurer Don Ullmann at 740 732-5558. You may also send an email by visiting the following link: movshoff@gmail.com. Here are some pictures from last year’s party. Come join us!! Door Prizes for everyone, Silent Auction and Drawings for money for those who purchase tickets. Lots of free food as well! Local Sports Achievements: Recognition of local athletes and coaches

Morningpicker recognizes the outstanding achievements of local athletes and coaches. This month, we’re highlighting Bryan Canterbury, Janet Frazier, and other notable figures in the Mid-Ohio Valley sports community.

    • Bryan Canterbury: Canterbury coached the Ravenswood High School cross country and track teams. His Red Devils boys cross country teams won 9 consecutive state championships from 2000-2008. His Ravenswood girls track teams won 5 state championships.
      • Janet Frazier: Frazier excelled in both basketball and volleyball at Wirt County High School. She went on to play on the collegiate level at Fairmont State College. Following her playing days she returned to Wirt County as volleyball coach. She led the Lady Tigers to an unprecedented 11 Class A State championships.

Sports Hall of Fame Inductees

The Mid-Ohio Valley Sports Hall of Fame proudly announces the Class of 2024. The induction banquet for this class was held June 8, 2024 at 6 p.m. at the Grand Pointe Conference and Reception Center in Vienna WV.

Class of 2024 Inductees: Profiles of inductees

    • Michael Cox: Cox was a record-setting multisport athlete at St. Marys High school. He rushed for nearly 33 hundred yards for the Blue Devils football team, earning first team all-state honors for his junior and senior seasons. Cox also earned a state championship in the 110 meter high hurdles for the St. Marys track team.
      • H. Dugan Hill: Hill earned All-State honors as a part of Caldwell High School’s State Champion Cross Country team in 1973. He went on to coach cross country and track and field for his alma mater. Hill’s boys cross country teams won six state championships and 3 second place finishes.

Joe Crislip of Parkersburg recorded a hole-in-one at Oxbow Golf Course. Crislip used a 60-degree wedge to ace the 101-yard, par 3, fourth hole. The feat was witnessed by Rob Richards, Steve Florence, and George Klinger.
