Men’s Basketball

Concordia erased a nine-point deficit in the final six minutes to pull out a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win over Hamline on Saturday at Memorial Auditorium. The Cobbers and Pipers traded scoring runs in the final 11:38 of the game, with Concordia’s coming at the right time.

The Cobbers led 52-51 with 11:38 to go but the Pipers took off on an 11-1 run over a six-minute span to take a 62-53 lead with 5:31 to play. The Cobbers responded with a 16-1 run to end the game.

    • Jackson Loge made a couple layups.
      • Peyton Belka drained a 3-pointer.
        • Rowan Nelson’s three-point play tied it 63-63 with 2:07 to play.

        Nelson led the Cobbers with 20 points and Loge had a 15-point, 13-rebound double-double. Belka and Jacob Cook both scored 10 points and Erik Hedstrom had nine points and nine rebounds off the bench.

        Concordia is now 4-6 in the MIAC and 8-11 overall. The Cobbers play host to St. Olaf at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5.

        Women’s Basketball

        MSU Moorhead probably wasn’t pleased about how its game against St. Cloud State ended in regulation, but the Dragons didn’t let it affect them in overtime.

        St. Cloud State outscored the Dragons 10-2 over the final 4-1/2 minutes of regulation to force overtime, but MSUM outscored the Huskies 16-4 in OT to lock up the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory.

          • MSUM’s Terryn Johnson scored a basket in the paint for a 60-52 lead with 4:29 to play.
            • Ashton Safranski made two foul shots for a 62-59 lead with 12 seconds left.
              • Safranski had 16 points, four assists, and four steals.

              Natalie Jens scored seven of her game-high 20 points in OT and she had seven rebounds. Abby Berge had 16 points and eight rebounds, Safranski had 16 points, four assists and four steals, and Johnson finished with a 12-point, 12 rebound double-double and she also had four assists.

              The Dragons are 8-8 in the NSIC and 10-12 overall. They play at Minot State at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5.

              Women’s Hockey

              St. Catherine’s Paige Loidolt scored in overtime to lift the Wildcats to a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win over Concordia on Saturday. St. Kate’s earned a split of a weekend series against the Cobbers, who won the opener 3-2 on Friday.

              St. Kate’s scored three first-period goals, two on the power play, to take a 3-0 lead.

                  Concordia started strong and roughed up Hamline in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game on Saturday at Memorial Auditorium. The Cobbers limited Hamline to 26 first-half points and led by 21 points at halftime.

                    • The Cobbers shot 42% from the floor.
                      • They hit 18 of 21 free throws.
                        • They had 19 assists on 25 baskets.

                        Makayla Anderson led the Cobbers with 19 points and nine rebounds. She also had four assists and two blocks.

                        Greta Tollefson had 12 points and five assists, and Carlee Sieben had 11 points, four boards, two assists and three steals.

                        The Cobbers are now 7-5 in the MIAC and 12-7 overall. Hamline fell to 8-4 in the conference and 13-6 overall.
