There’s no doubt Squid Game season 2 is going to happen on Netflix. The series was officially renewed in June 2022, which isn’t surprising at all given how successful the first season was.

Since the first season premiered and caught on in the mainstream, everyone has been asking creator Hwang Dong-hyuk about season 2.

In an exclusive interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hwang Dong-hyuk opened up about the anticipation surrounding season 2 of his series.

If I decide to make a second season, there are some riveting stories that have yet to be told. For instance, the story of the police officer and his brother, whom we know as ‘the Front Man’. How did these two brothers become estranged? What is their relationship like now? Then there’s also an intriguing tale about a recruiter in a suit who becomes embroiled with Gi-hun through playing ddakji – where does he come into play throughout this entire narrative? All these questions will hopefully be unveiled should I move forward with creating another season. Gi-hun’s journey of facing those who developed the games, presents an exciting opportunity for Season Two storylines. We could explore what his decision to turn back means and how he manages the consequences that come with it. There are a myriad of ways we can take this narrative further in Season Two!

Squid Game season 2: Plot

Although we don’t have any concrete info regarding season 2’s plot, Lee Jung-jae-who starred as Seong Gi-hun in the original series-let it slip during an Ilgan Sports interview that Front Man will be making a return and might even take on a more important role. It seems like this upcoming installment of the show is going to focus heavily on revenge!

Squid Game season 2 : Filming

In his interview, Jung-jae divulged that the filming of Squid Game season 2 is slated to start this summer! He noted that shooting for the second series might take more days than its predecessor due to an increased amount of content.

Squid Game season 2: Release updates

Good news, Squid Game fans! Season 2 is on the horizon – but you’ll need to be patient. It’s been over a year since season 1 debuted in 2021, and unfortunately it looks like we’ll have to wait another 12 months or more before this highly anticipated sophomore installment graces our screens again.

With the second season of filming not scheduled to begin until summer 2023, and with potential delays due to COVID-19 as well as increased scope for this upcoming installment, it is likely that we won’t be able to watch the next series on Netflix until late 2024 or even 2025. This extended timeline has been confirmed by Jung-jae who added that while the first season took 10 months due to slowdowns related to COVID-19, he anticipates a longer production period for Season 2.

With filming yet to begin, it can be expected that at least a year of prep and post-production will take place before the show is ready for broadcast. That would mean an anticipated completion date around summer 2024 or even fall 2024, setting up a winter premiere in either late 2024 or early 2025.
