Netflix’s ‘Troll’ Trailer Teases Creepy Giant Monster Story Based on Scandinavian Mythology

Norway gets the spotlight

Netflix has released the teaser trailer for Troll, a Norwegian monster movie. The movie is directed by Roar Uthaug, who directed 2018’s Tomb Raider, starring Alicia Vikander. Troll will be all about the titular gigantic monster, which has been part of Scandinavian mythology for centuries. Let’s know about the movie in detail below.

About Troll

The trailer for Troll was released as part of Netflix’s Geeked Week, and gives us a brief, but scary look at Norway’s mythological creature. Uthaug says the project was in the works for 20 years, and it was originally meant to star his Tomb Raider lead Alicia Vikander once more. However, the actor had to withdraw owing to scheduling conflicts.

In the trailer, we see a group of researchers driving up to the mountains of Dovre to see what they thought was a myth. But they find out that it was indeed a real being, something that roamed around at night, and stays frozen during the day. The team discovers a monstrously large footprint, and comes across a cave littered with massive bones. But soon, they come face to face against a troll that is said to have been asleep for a 1000 years.

While Uthaug got the idea first, the script was written by Espen Aukan. Aukan had worked on the Norwegian horror hit, Viking Wolf. As for the cast, Vikander’s leading role went to Ine Marie Wilmann. Additional cast members include Mads Sjøgård Pettersen, Kim Falck, Pål Anders Nordvi, Hugo Mikal Skår, and Eric Vorenholt. The movie was filmed mainly in Oslo, and wrapped production in December 2021.

We are yet to see a proper trailer for Troll, but we can expect it in the coming months. A release date has also not been announced.
