Netflix’s Beyond Good & Evil: What We Know So Far

The movie was in development since 2020, with Rob Letterman attached as director

Before we proceed, know that there was little updates since the announcement in August 2020. Changes will be made once we receive more updates.

Beyond Good & Evil is one among several games that are getting television or movie adaptations after Netflix partnered with game developer Ubisoft. Aside from Netflix, Ubisoft also partnered with Apple TV+ for a few projects. They also announced a Driver live-action series for Binge.com.

Netflix looks to be deeply getting into the video game business, after adapting a bunch of high profile titles into live-action shows and animes.

The game first came out in 2003, and tells the story of Jade, who lives in a mining planet. Jade started off as a reporter, but becomes a resistance fighter after she discovers a conspiracy between the alien invaders and the military who promised to protect the population.

The game became immensely popular, and even got an HD remaster in 2011. A sequel was in the works for a long time, but hasn’t seen the light of day yet. The sequel was announced in 2008, but the first-look teaser didn’t come until E3 2017. We got a brief gameplay footage in 2018, and from what it showed, the scope of the gameplay looked massive. But the developers didn’t release anything after that, which made fans wonder if they tried to bite off more than they could chew.

The Netflix project also didn’t get any major updates. It was described as a hybrid live-action, which could mean a motion-capture film like 2011’s The Adventures of Tintin. Netflix has had plenty of experience with mocap shows, such as Love, Death & Robots.

The project is helmed by Rob Letterman, known for Detective Pikachu, Goosebumps, and Gulliver’s Travels.
