Why Pink Turned Down Super Bowl Halftime Show?

Let’s face it – Pink is one of the greatest performers of our time whether you like her or not. Her vocal prowess is impeccable and she puts 100% behind every show and concert. And to back that up, she has made a lot of bangers during her career.

But now, we are respecting the singer for a whole other reason. The Just Give Me a Reason hitmaker was approached by the NFL for the Superbowl halftime show. This is one of the greatest achievements in a performer’s career.

But Pink turned down the 2020 Superbowl offer. What could have pushed her to reject one of the biggest opportunities? Turns out, she did it for humanitarian and political reasons. Talking to Billboard, the singer talked about the reason behind her no. Pink said that she didn’t agree with the NFL’s treatment of Colin Kaepernick.

The football athlete famously took a knee during the National Anthem back in 2019. Kaepernick did it to protest the police brutality and oppression of the people of color. While many supported him, apparently the NFL wasn’t so happy with his move. He was not given a playing position in his team after that. Even the president of the US, Donald Trump spoke out against the ”disrespectful” act.

But Kaepernick had a lot of supporters as well. From Hollywood, stars such as Zendaya, Ava DuVernay, and Cardi B supported him. And he also won a lawsuit against NFL for mistreatment after him taking the knee.

And now, Pink has joined the ranks of powerful people taking his side. She even went as far as to say that she might get carried out of the venue as she would take a knee herself. Also, another major reason behind her bowing out of the performance was knowing that she would get criticized. As a white person, she would get the same hate as Coldplay or Justin Timberlake did.

The singer thinks that instead of them, a Black or Latino performer should be picked instead. And looks like her prediction came true – J-Lo and Shakira have been confirmed to headline the Superbowl this 2020.
