Joseph Gordon-Levitt bags the role of Jim Jones in upcoming massacre drama
500 Days of Summer fame Joseph Gordon-Levitt will play the role of the infamous cult leader Jim Jones in his upcoming flick.
The psychological thriller titled “White Night” is based on the largest mass suicide-murder cases in history. According to reports, Chloe Grace Moretz will star alongside Joseph to play the role of cult survivor Deborah Layton.
What is White Night all about?
One of the most massive mass murder-suicides in history, the Jonestown massacre saw the death of more than 900 people. The ill-famed cult leader Jim Jones orchestrated this movement and commanded his followers to consume poison.
Written by William Wheeler, White Night is an adaptation of Seductive Poison (Layton’s best-selling memoir). FilmNation will be the producer of this project along with Archer Gray.
The psychological thriller will shed light on the horrifying, haunting story through Layton’s (Moretz) eyes. It will tell the story of how she rose through the ranks at People’s Temple and turned on Jones at the end to expose his notorious truth to the world.
Archer Gray’s CEO speaks further about White Night
Archer Gray’s CEO, Amy Nauiokas revealed that Layton’s Seductive Poison was the first book she and Anne Carey optioned at Gray. Furthermore, this very book became the foundation of ther mission to make the story heard in front of the world.
Amy further added that Debbie’s journey is incredible and can serve as a warning to be aware about the power a leader can hold and the consequences.
Ashley Fox, the production president of FilmNation called this depiction of the major historical event an immersive experience.
Moretz recently starred in a sci-fi thriller “Mother/Android“. On the other hand, Gordon-Levitt’s next upcoming project will the Showtime limited series “Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber“. Here, the actor will play the role of Uber founder Travis Kalanick.
