What went majorly wrong with The Walking Dead’s midseason premiere? Check out what was wrong and why it didn’t work out.

Walking dead was popular for its dark atmosphere and zombie apocalypse. However it seems that it has changed a lot in the latest midseason premiere after taking inspiration from game of thrones. The latest season showed us the group of lead characters are stuck in a cave where the alpha’s giant group of undead dwells. Jerry, Magna, Carol, Daryl and Aaron are underground. The season showed their escape to safety by tacking zombies, narrow passages, chasms.

Now talking about Game of thrones and the reason why it was criticised badly was the poor lighting effects. The cinematography done in the battle of winterfell was very poor. That scene had only the light of the moon and few flames. That caused the scene to be dimly or poorly illuminated for the audience to enjoy. The same is seen in Walking Dead’s cave sequences. It’s very hard to decipher what is happing due to extremely poor lighting. Nothing could be said about the position of the characters. However the good thing is that the poor lighting was only in the cave scenes. Rest of the scenes were lit properly.

Now one could argue that the dark lighting was used to create more horror and make the viewers feel the danger. However dark lighting caused the viewers to be more confused rather than scared.

After the criticism the Game of Thrones cinemator put the blame on modern devices and some calibration settings. Angela Kang who is the show runner of Walking Dead said in her defence that color tests were conducted on the caves before shooting. The visibility was appropriate. Although Walking Dead wasn’t criticised to the same level as Game Of Thrones, but many fans did complain. What do you guys think about Angela Kang’s response. Do you agree with her.
