The Weeknd is claiming that his songs inspired Usher’s 2012 hit song “Climax”
The Weekend, whose new album ‘After hours’ released last month, revealed that his old album from 2011- House of Balloons inspired Usher to experiment with his signature style of alternative R&B.
In an interview, the Weeknd said that when he heard Usher’s song Climax, he instantly knew that it matched the style of songs that were in his 2011 album House of Balloons. He says that his album was path-breaking and changed the sound of pop music before his own eyes.
The singer revealed that he was initially upset after hearing the tune of Usher’s song, but he ultimately took it as a compliment to his musical talents. The Weeknd revealed that it was very flattering to hear his style of music being replicated in Usher’s song.
At the time of the release of his 2011 mixtape, The Weeknd had not hit the pinnacle of fame that he has achieved now and he was still working to gain mainstream popularity for his exclusive artistry, which he and his team believe other performers are now replicating.
Nobody from The Weeknd’s or Usher’s team responded to this comment.
Soon after his remark, The Weeknd’s manager, Wassim Slaiby commented that people don’t recognize how hard The Weeknd had to work before he got recognition. He also added The Weeknd created a whole new wave of R&B that everybody loves right now.
But Diplo who had produced the song in 2012, will certainly not agree with The Weekend’s remarks as he had already explained earlier that the production was initially a house type of music, but changed to a minimal techno style. He also added that Usher has the power to change his tunes to any desired lane, and was smart enough to bring R&B in sync with house music.
The Weeknd and Usher were entangled in a feud in 2016 after the former had said that he was the most awarded male R&B vocalist in Billboard Music Awards’ history.
