Netflix’s Violet Evergarden is returning with its Season 2 much sooner than anyone expected. The sequel of the anime was not expected at all.
Violet Evergarden is a Japanese anime television series. It is based on a novel series bearing the same name which is written by Kana Akatsuki and illustrated by Akiko Takase.
The novel won the grand prize in the 5th Kyoto Animation Award’s novel category in 2014. It is the first-ever work to receive a grand prize in each of the three categories of novel, scenario, and manga). The novel series was first published on December 25, 2015, and it continued it December 26, 2016.
A few years after the publication of the novel series Kyoto Animation announced the making of anime television series based on the novel. Season 1 of Violet Evergarden was launched on January 11, 2018. Since then, fans have been eagerly waiting for the second season. Here’s everything we know about the release of Season 2 so far.
The Release Date
Season 1 of Violet Evergarden comprised of 13 episodes was released on January 11, 2018, and ended on April 5 of the same year. A few months after the airing of Season 1, an original video animation (OVA) special episode was launched on July 4, 2018. Around the same time, an announcement was made about an anime movie based on the Television show which would be a sequel to Season 1, despite having a new storyline.
Kyoto Animation may continue the story in the form of an anime movie rather than in the form of the full-length season. So the possibility of Season 2 is uncertain. Violet Evergarden movie is expected to be premiered on April 24, 2020.
