The reason behind the official cancellation is years of backlash and reputation going low due to bad ratings.
L Brands have finally confirmed the news of cancellation on Thursday, four months after model Shanina Shaik leaked the story. It is the first time in 23 years the most prominent brand of the world has canceled its show. CFO Stuart Burgdoerfer said, “ We will speak to the customers for the tough decision taken by us.” He praised the impact the show creates worldwide, but the runway show never impacted the short term sales.
The company is trying to reduce the extravagant pompous wastage of money as the sales of Victoria’s Secret are going down for a long time.
Sales have dropped seven percent in the latest quarter compared to a two percent fall during the same period last year, according to sources.
The first Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was held at the Plaza Hotel in New York City in 1995.
The show featured some of the world’s most in-demand models, including Stephanie Seymour, Naomi Campbell, Kendall Jenner, and sisters Gigi and Bella Hadid. It’s been a long journey, but a sudden dip in sales from the last few years has created a lot of buzz.
The news about cancellation was leaked by model Shaik in July this year, who has walked for the show five times since 2011.
In recent years we only witnessed thin models walking the ramp. As per new reports, even the TV ratings faced a significant drop in 2018. After that, it was announced that the show would no longer be aired on the TV after almost two decades of success.
53 Victoria Secret stores were closed in 2018 in the US.
They are trying to revive it by bringing whatever possible alterations in the look. The competition has grown tough as the new lingerie brands are making noise. We hope the company regenerates itself soon.
