The trailer also features mustachioed Miles Teller playing Lieutenant Bradley Bradshaw, call sign Rooster. He is the son of Maverick’s partner Goose, who had passed away in the original 1986 film. The film’s official synopsis read that after more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete Mitchell played by Tom Cruise is where he has always belonged, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and avoiding the promotion in rank that could ground him. He finds himself training a detachment of Top Gun graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, he encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: “Rooster,” who is the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick “Goose” Bradshaw. At the face of an uncertain future, while confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, reaching climax in a mission that demands the eventual sacrifice from those who have chosen to fly it.
