The Queen’s Gambit will not return to Netflix for a season 2
Netflix’s phenomenal limited drama series, The Queen’s Gambit, just took home an epic 11 Emmys under various categories. The show became the first-ever Netflix’s limited series to bag the award for Outstanding Limited Series.
Ever since The Queen’s Gambit debuted in October 2020, it became the most-watched series ever on the Netflix streaming service. Sources say that a whopping 62 million households have watched the show in the first 28 days of its release. Now, when the show comes out to be such a victory, it’s quite natural for fans to expect a season 2 of The Queen’s Gambit. However, the executive producers of The Queen’s Gambit, Scott Frank and, William Holberg declared that the show doesn’t return for a new season.
What do the executive producers of The Queen’s Gambit have to say about it?
Behind the stage at Emmys, the executive producers of the show, Scott Frank and William Holberg have declared that the story of Beth Harmon (Anya Taylor) reached a dead-end. In addition, they also mentioned that the limited series doesn’t get a follow-up of any form.
Speaking to Deadline, the director of The Queen’s Gambit and Scott Frank stated that they feel like they told the story they wanted to tell. Further added that “I’m terrified that if we try to tell more, we would ruin what we’ve already told”. The series indeed had a very natural ending to Beth’s story that a new series means bringing up a wholly different story. Not to forget that The Queen’s Gambit is an alteration of a novel by Walter Tevis of the same title, a sequel for it would be a lot different from the actual source.
Can we expect The Queen’s Gambit’s team to work together again?
Albeit the end of The Queen’s Gambit, the show’s team is extremely enthusiastic about working together on another project. However, at the moment Anya Taylor is pretty much busy with her own shows. Let’s hope for them to reunite and give us another gem of a show!
