The Netflix historical drama series  The Last Kingdom has been renewed for the upcoming fourth season. The series is based on Benard Cornwell’s The Saxon Stories novel series. Here’s all you need to know about this one.

 

The Last Kingdom season four release date

It is said that the show’s renewal was announced in the month of December 2018 via twitter platform. In the month of April 2019, Netflix assured that filming of the fourth season has already begun, and it has promised to release ten episodes. But, in the month of July, the show’s Instagram page invited fans to join Uhtred next year on Netflix as the battle continues. Now it looks like season four is set to arrive in 2020.

A book named Pagan Lord, published in 2013, and the next book to be adapted for the series, jumps ahead a decade. We will be able to witness a fresh batch of young actors provided Netflix adheres to the timeline. The young actors include Uhtred’s children by Gisela, who in the books are all grown up.

Alexander Dreymon is on his way to return as Uhtred of Bebbanburg, and, with the alliances between the kingdoms fractured, he believes it is the right to challenge his uncle Aelfric, which is enacted by Joseph Millson.

Along with them, there will be many other actors featuring, including Toby Regbo (Aethelred), Ian Hart (Father Beocca), Emily Cox (Brida), Eliza Butterworth (Aelswith), Timothy Innes (Kind Edward), Mark Rowley (Finan), Millie Brady (Aethelflaed), Magnus Bruun (Cnut) and Jeppe Beck Laursen (Hasten).

Netflix has also confirmed that Prime Suspect 1973 star Stefanie Martini will make his mark to the cast as Eadith, “Aethelred’s new love conquest.”

Jamie Blackley (The Halcyon, If I Stay) is set to join the cast as Aethelred’s new right-hand man Eardwulf.

The first two seasons of the series can be watched on BBC and Netflix platforms, but season three is only available on Netflix as BBC discontinued the historical drama.
