Allow me to walk you through the issue.

The Public Feud

Scooter Braun embroiled in a feud with Taylor Swift who has called him a manipulative bully.

The month of June witnessed a public dispute between the Grammy Awards winner, Taylor Swift, and celebrity manager, Scooter Braun, that doesn’t seem to be settling for a long time. It began when Braun made a public announcement of acquiring the masters of all the 6 albums of Taylor from the country label, Big Machine.

Taylor was associated with Big Machine since the inception of her music career at the age of 17 till she parted ways with them in November 2018 and moved to the Universal Music Group. This move came as she wanted to own rights of her songs, which wasn’t the case with her previous label that owned all her previous albums from her 2006 self-titled debut till her latest 2017’s Reputation.

Taylor Swift had released a statement on Tumblr against Scooter.

The deal where Scooter has spent as much as $300million was rebuffed by Taylor. In a lengthy statement on Tumblr, she called him out for his “manipulative bullying”, alleging that he had been bullying her for years. She is livid about the fact that she had been trying to earn the rights of her own work but was denied every time and now. The deal for her own music happened under her nose in between her old label and music manager about which she had no information. It came into her knowledge only when the entire world was made aware of the huge purchase.

Support & Counterstatements

While Taylor’s outburst on Tumblr garnered huge support for her from all her fans. Scooter too received support from his A-List clients like Demi Lovato and Justin Bieber. Scott Borchetta, former Label head denied all the allegations of Taylor in a statement released on the Label’s website where he said that she was offered 100% rights of her work but she showed little to no interest.

In defense of his new partner, he said that he never saw unjustly between Scooter and Taylor, in fact, Scooter has always been positive about her. Scooter’s wife, Yael Cohen too came out in his defense slamming Taylor for a “public airing of laundry”. She affirms that Taylor knew about the deal much before the public announcement and her husband always had the best intentions for her who trusted Taylor more than she trusted herself.

Verdict

The verdict of this case is not clear right now. This new revelation from Taylor to re-record her songs has added more to the dispute but it’s legally unclear if she is allowed to it going by the contract. And, if Scooter did wrong her or she is the one to blow the matter out of proportion, we have to wait to find out.

Taylor’s new album ‘Lover’ is set to release tomorrow, August 23, 2019.
