Sherlock Holmes is a period mystery action film series. It is based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s novel character Sherlock Homes. We can soon expect to see Sherlock Holmes back for a third installment in the series.
Guy Ritchie, who directed the last two films in the series, is all set to direct the third installment in the period drama franchise.
Sherlock Holmes is played by Robert Downey Jr. The other casts include Jude Law as Dr. John Watson, Noomi Rapace as Simza, Jared Harris as Professor Moriarty, Rachel McAdams as Irene Adler and Stephen Fry as Mycroft Holmes.
The previous two films did exceedingly well at the box office. Both the films received critical acclaim and the actor received numerous awards for their spectacular performances. The first film also known as Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows came out in 2011 grossed over $545 million worldwide and holds a rating of 7.5/10 at IMDB.

It has been announced very recently that the third installment in the franchise is expected to release on 22 December 2021.
Expected Cast
All of the main casts will be reprising their respective roles. Robert Downer Jr as Sherlock Holmes, Jude Law as Dr. John Watson. Details on the supporting cast are not known at the moment.
What is expected to happen in Sherlock Holmes 3?
Sherlock Holmes 3 of the show is expected to mark the return of Sherlock Holmes to the franchise. At the end of Sherlock Holmes 2, Sherlock Holmes returned to the franchise after the incident where he must have died while killing Professor Moriarty.
What can we expect to see in Sherlock Holmes 3?
Sherlock Holmes is expected to be back in his sneaky detective mode in this movie, after surviving the ‘great fall’. People thought Sherlock Holmes killed himself in an attempt to eliminate Professor Moriarty. But at the end of the second movie we are relieved to see that he indeed is still well and alive. It will be compelling to see whether Professor Moriarty will return or not for the third film in the franchise. Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes and the rivalry between Sherlock Holmes and Professor Moriarty are equally important for the successful run of this wonderful film series.
