R&B singer Ashanti was Nearly Replaced by Jennifer Lopez by Fat Joe on Their Hit Song ‘What’s Luv?’

This took place during Fat Joe’s IG chat with Ashanti

R&B singer Ashanti came as a guest during hip-hop artist Fat Joe’s Instagram Live Chat and the two discussed about their many collaborations over the years. And we got to hear one bit of information that surprised us was about their 2001 smash hit ‘What’s Luv?’ which features them along with rapper Ja Rule.

A big surprise for Ashanti

Ashanti was in for quite the shock when Fat Joe revealed that the song, which had been at the second spot in the Billboard Hot 100 chart almost featured Jennifer Lopez instead of her on the final version. This was because both producer Irv Gotti who is known from Murder Inc and Ja Rule both wanted J Lo to be included as they wanted the song to appeal to the Latino community during those times.

Obviously, Ashanti couldn’t hide her surprise when she heard the news as she mouthed “What?” and later said that she never knew about that. Fat Joe revealed that he had argued with them for her to stay on the track and that there’s no way that she will be replaced.

As fans, we can all heave a sigh of relief that they decided to go ahead with Ashanti as this was one of the best songs in her career and had shown of her splendid vocal skills, apart from songs like ‘Always On Time’ and ‘Tip Drill’ from the nougties era. We also owe Fat Joe big time for sticking with Ashanti and defending her talent. It would definitely have been interesting to see how the whole thing would’ve turned out if they had gone with Jennifer Lopez.
